Voice Lab founder and Southbank artist in residence Mary King opens up the Queen Elizabeth Hall to anyone who wants to sing in this week-long festival. Themes include musical theatre (Mon), pop classics (Tue), world (Wed), gospel (Thur) and jazz (Fri), with a mass sing-off scheduled for Sunday. Designed as a drop-in clinic for the work-weary, King's programme also serves to remind us Londoners that belting out a tune can be a far more effective stress reliever than choking down a couple of mojitos.

Rachel Unthank & the Winterset

Hailing from Newcastle, Rachel Unthank & the Winterset are an all-girl folk foursome who've caused quite a stir among genre connoisseurs and new-music lovers alike. Their 2005 debut, Cruel Sister, won Mojo's Folk Album of the Year despite its simple production values. The magazine invites them back to London tonight to showcase songs from their equally captivating 2007 follow-up, The Bairns. Their live brilliance is built on the most solid of platforms: songwriting that manages to be both traditional and bang up-to-date, shored up by haunting Geordie voices and layered arrangements of piano, violin, cello and occasional tapping feet.

Cargo kick off another summer of yard parties with live music and Spanish tapas from their newly refurbished restaurant. Onstage tonight are laptop-and-guitar wielder James Yuill and funky Bristolian Casio tweaker Kid Carpet; with live artists like this in the garden and a raffle to win free meals and gig tickets, Monday nights suddenly seem like a good time to stay out late.
